Who owns FLACARS?
For
a complete overview of the structure of FLACARS please read the
By-Laws. These may be found on the website: FLACARS.org In yesteryear ownership was tied directly to membership. While this sounds ideal, it is not correct business. In reality ownership may not expire, ownership must be purchased, ownership must be voluntary, par value may be transferred or sold and that must not be compelled. FLACARS is owned by Florida Licensed Recovery Agents. To become an owner you must become a Class 'A' Member. This requires the purchase of one share of FLACARS stock. No individual may own more than one share of FLACARS' stock. Ownership may not be revoked and doesn't expire. Stock may be re-sold to a qualified buyer. As of April 20, 2004 there are ten individuals that own one share of FLACARS stock. Each individual paid $500 into the FLACARS capital account. The capital account is designed to be used for investment purposes in FLACARS business. It is not to be wasted away. For example: The funds in the capital account may be used for convention overhead costs. The convention should then generate enough revenue to replace those funds. Building the capital account will provide strength but money is not the point. True strength lies in unity and increasing numbers. Ownership is not mandatory. No one is trying to convince you to buy in. Ownership of FLACARS is not a personal investment. Ownership is an industry investment. FLACARS owners will never receive dividends. The by-laws contain an irrevocable article that forbids profit taking by ownership and in effect makes FLACARS a not for profit corporation. However, FLACARS is legally a for profit corporation. The reason for this is simple.... The regulation, requirements and costs to properly set up, manage and oversee a non-profit corporation make existence as a for-profit very attractive and sensible. A similar state level industry group spends over $30K per year to have their non-profit organization managed.
If
it bothers you that some individuals own FLACARS then you need to become an
owner. If you care about FLACARS you need to be an owner. It is the task of
ownership to provide support and service to the Alliance. In order for an owner to have voting rights on FLACARS matters the owner must be a FLACARS Class '1' member in good standing. This member is designated as a FLACARS Class '1A' member. Any Licensed E or EE Recovery Agent may be a Class 1 member of FLACARS. Class 1, 2 & 3 members are the Alliance. The Alliance elects the officers and vote to budget money they contribute. The value of accountability can’t be overstated. FLACARS financial information is to be published to all members of all classes. If you are contributing you deserve to know exactly what dollar amount is coming in, what dollar amount is going out and how much is on hand for the future. FLACARS is all about the future. The business plan of FLACARS is to steadily grow and build momentum. You need to be a member of the Alliance.
If
you are a licensed E or EE agent you need to consider being a FLACARS owner.
The choice is yours. |
